Solutions for Ageing Eyes

The top four most common complaints or concerns that are presented to us when it comes to treating the eye area are: Crow's feet, Under eye bags, Lax skin (including hooded eyelids and under eye wrinkles) and Dark circles.

Let's have a look at what treatments are available for each of the conditions mentioned above, as well as what these options entail:

1) Crow's Feet

Crow's feet are the small wrinkles that develop on the sides of the eyes, often referred to as "laughter lines". These can be treated with:

2) Hooded Eyelids & Under Eye Wrinkles

Lax skin around the eye area is often caused by a loss of fat or volume around the eye area, giving the eyes a "sunken" or tired look. Hooded lids, on the other hand, look like one's eyelids are droopy and hanging like a little umbrella over the eye.

There are a few options for this:

3) Under Eye Bags

It's important to establish WHAT TYPE of eye bag we are treating. If it is an eye bag that is caused by loose or lax skin, then we would utilise the same treatments as we do for hooded lids or lax skin. If, however, the under eye bag is caused by protruding fat pads under the eye area, then we could do any of the following:

4) Dark Under Eye Circles

In most cases, dark circles are caused by a combination of factors including poor drainage (and poor blood flow), thinning skin, high-stress levels and a lack of sleep, to name but a few. There are a number of effective treatments to improve dark circles, including:

WHAT DO THESE TREATMENTS DO?

  • Botulinum Injections prevent the ability of the targeted muscle to contract, stopping it from being able to form lines and wrinkles
  • Carboxytherapy is arguably one of the most versatile therapies within medical aesthetics. Carboxy can act on blood and lymphatic circulation, it can be used to target fatty pockets, and it can stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, causing a tightening effect in the skin.
  • Pearl and CO2 Fractional Lasers both partially ablate the skin, causing a contraction in the skin to tighten the area, but also fractionally resurfacing the skin and forcing new tissue formation.
  • Fraxel DUAL Laser is a non-ablative resurfacing laser, causing dramatic skin renewal.
  • Jett Plasma Therapyhas been nicknamed the "non-surgical blepharoplasty", it has the same incredible results as a Fractional Laser but allows the doctor to treat a more targeted area.
  • PDO Threads strengthen the skin while promoting collagen and elastin formation. The thread also results in improved circulation around the eye area.
  • Dermal Fillers replace volume to remove the "sunken, gaunt" look under the eyes.
  • Laser Genesis improves circulation, colour and texture and stimulates the production of collagen and elastin.
  • Ceccarelli and PC injections are used for destroying fatty deposits which result in fat pads under the eyes (although their way of breaking down the fat is slightly different).
  • Skin Needling encourages increased skin cell turn over and cell renewal, improved texture and tightening. A great all-rounder treatment that can be performed on all skin types.
  • Radiofrequency encourages the production of new collagen and elastin and causes tightening of the collagen fibres in the skin, resulting in skin tightening. This is also a fantastic treatment that can be performed on all skin types.
