Peels for Skin Rejuvenation

Peels for Skin Rejuvenation

Roll up, roll up! Time to rise and shine and get your skin ready for summer!

As an addict of warm and sunny weather, I tend to go into a semi-frozen state during winter and count the days to spring and warmer days. Our houses are designed to keep the heat out and hugging the heater and an electric blanket is not how I choose to spend my leisure time.

The only good thing is that this is an ideal time to go to Skin Renewal for deeper peel treatments which will restore the smoothness and beauty of your skin. After these treatments, staying out of the sun is mandatory so winter is the ideal time to have these treatments and to allow for the skin’s healing process.

Benefits of Peels

During a peel, dead skin cells and impurities which make skin dull will be lifted and removed. This procedure will stimulate the metabolism of the cells below the surface to produce healthy new skin.

Imperfections on the skin such as acne, acne scars, dark sunspots, sun damage, mild wrinkles and large pores will improve in appearance. Below are a few of the peels available and the right peel(s) for your problem will be recommended to you after a thorough consultation with a Skin Renewal Doctor.

Ferulic Peel

This is considered a medium-depth peel which results in deeper penetration and greater exfoliation of the outer layers of skin cells. It is used for those suffering from mild to severe acne, and individuals who have oily or thicker skin as it helps to decrease oil production and contributes to the healing process of acne.

The Ferulic peel is great for all skin types and will smooth and rejuvenate the treated skin. The treated area will peel and flake for about a week after which it will result in healthier and younger-looking skin.

TCA (Trichloracetic Acid) Peels

TCA peels are available in various strengths, and the concentration used will depend on what your skin needs. A series of TCA peels can improve the appearance of superficial fine lines and uneven pigmentation. It also leaves the skin softer, smoother and more radiant. After a treatment, you can expect mild redness, followed by dark scaling that appears within 3-5 days and falls off after days five to seven.

3D Peels

The 3D Peel series is a three-peel system for more advanced skin problems and is only performed by a trained Medical Doctor. It is a deeper mid-dermal peel for Melasma (hormonal pigmentation) that is resistant to normal superficial peels but also addresses ageing, pre-cancerous rough lesions, age spots and general ageing of the skin. This one is going to keep you off work for a few days, the results are however worth it! By applying a breathable camouflage such as Lycogel you can cover up, improve the healing of the skin and reduce the social impact.

Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) Peels

This amazing therapy uses a combination of pure visible blue, red and yellow light to stimulate deeper skin tissue. PDT uses the body’s own processes to counter the effects of ageing as each light targets specific cells which stimulate new cell growth and will then repair the skin.

Skin rejuvenation is done with a combination of red and/or yellow light to treat photo-aged skin and soften fine lines, this very combination can also be used for wound healing.

The PDT acne therapy uses alternating blue and red light to clear up problem skin with no pain or downtime. Research has shown that using visible blue and red light has been proven effective in treating mild to moderate acne. The blue light destroys bacteria responsible for causing acne and the red light penetrates deeply into tissue and has anti-inflammatory properties.

When 20% ALA acid is applied to the skin, it becomes more sensitive to light and the red light will be used to activate the solution which then destroys abnormal cells and excessive oil gland cells. This results in smoother and clearer skin. After treatment, all light sources must be avoided for about two days.

Tips for Best Results

  • All these treatments make the skin more sensitive to the sun and hence sun exposure must be avoided. If you go outside ensure you wear a protective hat to minimise direct sunlight on the treated skin.
  • Don’t forget the sunblock! A factor 30+ sunblock must be worn at all times to protect the skin, even if you are only indoors through the winter and summer months.
  • Do these peeling treatments before summer starts, because you will want to go out and enjoy the wonderful heat after all the months of cold weather.
  • Enjoy your great-looking skin.
