Restore the Windows to your Soul

Restore the Windows to your Soul

They say that your eyes are the windows to your soul. Fine, that’s great but nobody warned me about those “cracks” and “window sills”… that start developing below your eyes as you grow older!

Suddenly, that handy concealer can’t keep up with the cover-up needed, and too much concealer looks worse than none at all. These are all warning signals that it’s time for some much needed maintenance and repair work.

So, before you get depressed about it, let me give you a little tutorial on why the eye ages more quickly than the rest of the face, and then cheer you up with some great solutions for younger looking eyes.

Dark Circles and Volume Loss below the Eyes

The skin below our eyes is one-third the thickness of the rest of the face, is very delicate, and does not have as many oil glands as the rest of the body. Furthermore, the volume in that area reduces over the years and results in under-eye hollows and dark shadows.

To combat this we offer a combination of treatments such as Carboxytherapy™, a treatment that blushes carbon dioxide into the under-eye area to trigger the skin’s natural ability to improve blood flow and send increased levels of oxygen into the area. After a few treatments, one notices marked improvements in fine lines, dark circles and youthfulness.dermal fillers to replace the volume loss and cause light to reflect off the under-eye area as opposed to absorbing it into a hollow.

Once maximum results with CarboxytherapyTM are achieved we use specific dermal fillers under the eyes for long-lasting replacement of lost volume and to restore the smooth, wrinkle-free look of younger skin.

Our Skin Renewal doctors will also assess your overall health and chat to you regarding allergies, stress, hormonal imbalances or food insensitivities as possible causes of dark under-eye circles so that you may address these health issues to improve the eye’s appearance.

Droopy Eyelids

No we are not talking about sexy heavy-lidded bedroom eyes. I’m talking about what my mother never warned me about, the sagging upper eye-lid! With ageing, one’s skin starts losing elasticity, giving the eyes a tired look as the brow area sags towards the eyelids and those dreaded crow’s feet start appearing. Previously the best remedy was surgery, but now there is a revolutionary treatment that will tighten and lift the skin, currently available at Skin Renewal.

Miracu™ is a polydioxanone (PDO), super-thin and absorbable thread that has been used in surgical stitches; but for this rejuvenating procedure these threads are inserted into the dermis of the skin to act as a support structure while also stimulating new collagen production.

The benefit of this is that skin will appear tighter and younger and there will be a reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. Overall skin tone and texture will also improve and this procedure can be used in conjunction with other rejuvenation treatments. It gives an instant lifting result, but the best effect will be observed in about two to three months after the treatment.

Under Eye Bags

For some people facial ageing means losing the plumpness under the eyes and for others it means excess fat under the eyes. These bags can become quite prominent and, in days gone by, surgery was the only solution. Now this excess fat under the eye area can be treated non- surgically with Mesotherapy™ injections. The active ingredient in these micro-injections dissolves the fat cell wall and improves circulation in the area. In addition, monopolar radiofrequency therapy such as the new Exilis Elite® and Titania can be used to tighten the skin of the eye area especially the bottom lids and crow’s feet. Another alternative is micro skin needling treatment that will also rejuvenate the eyelid area.

Crow’s Feet

You cannot prevent crow’s feet from forming as this condition is the result of normal usage; squinting in the sun, laughing and just everyday facial movement.

Softening these lines would require Botox® injections for younger patients and for older patients it would require a combination of the injections as well as rejuvenation treatments such as Laser Genesis™, Carboxytherapy, Skin Needling or Pearl Fractional™ treatment. Botox® would reduce daily muscle usage to prevent further wrinkles from forming and because the skin is quite thin around the eye area, it is very responsive to Laser Genesis™, which uses a light to moderate depth laser.

For those of you that are scared of needles (Oh please, these are tiny little needles!), there are various other tried and trusted rejuvenating treatments that vary from laser therapy to radiofrequency sessions or skin peels.
