Paarl Branch Newsletter March 2021

Branch Newsletter Image

Hello, hello! Lots of exciting things have been happening at the Paarl branch lately. Are you ready to get stuck in?

First up, Helette Westraad, our Branch Manager, received an accolade to celebrate 10 years of service with Skin Renewal. We love that we’re the kind of place where people want to stick around and suspect it’s less to do with the free lemon water and more about how we start to see each other like family.

Congrats Helette!

More news? Dr Chrisna Andersen celebrated her birthday on the 19th of January and Zelna our, housekeeper, blew out her candles the very next day.

Pigmentation in the spotlight

The Autumn and Winter months introduce the opportunity for our patients to explore an array of deeper, more aggressive treatments. Most aggressive resurfacing treatments are done to improve conditions that affect both the upper (epidermal) and lower (dermal) layers of the skin i.e pigmentation.

There are different types of pigmentation - hormonal pigmentation, superficial hyperpigmentation and dermal pigmentation. It is important to note that the treatment of pigmentation and melasma is not a one size fits all solution, and it is essential to ensure that treatments are prescribed and administered by professionals who know what they are doing.

Pigmentation Treatment Options

The treatment of pigmentation depends on the type of pigmentation and the depth of the pigment. It is important to note that not all lasers are the sameAlso, some machines have a medical grading, and can only be used in medical aesthetic clinics, such as Skin Renewal. These machines are more powerful and can reach much deeper levels of the skin. Results are therefore much better, but this process needs to be operated and monitored by qualified personnel to avoid burning or damaging the skin further.

Laser Genesis™ skin therapy uses the multi-award-winning Cutera Nd:YAG non-intrusive laser to treat pigmentation with no pain or downtime. It helps break up superficial (i.e. not deep) pigmentation and prevents it recurring after treatment, as well as treating hard-to-treat skin problems such as acne, acne scarring as well as enlarged pores.

Fraxel® DUAL laser treats skin types 1 to 6 more effectively than previous lasers, in fewer treatments. It improves skin tone and texture, reduces pigmentation around the eye area and erases unwanted age/brown spots, as well as improves the appearance of acne scars and surgical scars.

Dermamelan begins with a pigmentation treatment mask in the clinic, then a specific treatment programme at home for 9-12 months. Dermamelan works where other treatments have failed. It treats all forms of excess pigmentation, especially deep-seated, severe melasma or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Chemical peels vary greatly in strength – from superficial peels to more invasive peels. The stronger and more aggressive the peels are, the more downtime it requires, and the more expensive it generally is. With a series of peels, you can quickly achieve a substantial improvement in the uneven pigmentation, while making your skin look and feel softer, smoother, and more radiant.

Transdermal Mesotherapy with prescription brightening products done straight after a peel improves the final result by suppressing deep dermal pigment.

Just a few faves

Skincare therapist Anke Theron’s favourite skin condition to treat is acne. Nothing makes her happier than revealing clear, glowing skin and her favourite solution to do just that is a Beta peel combined with Laser Genesis.

Product-wise, she’s a big fan of Lamelle Skin Essence Corrector. It’s a priming liquid that delivers a probiotic to the skin while preparing it to better absorb any other products you apply afterwards. In short, it’s a great way to get the most bang for your skincare buck!

As for skincare therapist Elke Kritzinger, she’s all about repairing sun damaged skin. For this, her favourite tool is Limelight. A non-invasive targeted form of IPL, a Limelight session is a great way to zap sun spots, redness and even superficial veins.

Elke’s also got some top product picks. One is NeoStrata’s Firming Tri-Therapy Lifting Serum. It contains mega-hydrating hyaluronic acid and skin-plumping Aminofill to help volumise and sculpt your skin while improving the look of deep wrinkles. Her other ride-or-die product bestie is NeoStrata’s Resurface Smooth Surface Glycolic Peel Pads. Again, it contains line-reducing Aminofill, but the real magic bullet is 10% glycolic acid to exfoliate dead skin cells and reveal a much brighter, smoother-looking complexion.

Hole in one!

Last but not least, we had a ball at the Pearl Valley Ladies Open golf day yesterday! All the players received a Heliocare sunscreen sample via our branded pop-up stand. We absolutely adore our local community and this is just one way we can contribute – by helping you take great care of your skin, be it on the green or in our clinic.
