From a new face leading the way at our branch to our team enjoying all the perks that our ‘hood has to offer, from must-have winter treatments and products to our newly launched, paperless patient portal and ever-rewarding loyalty programme, as usual there’s lots to share with you our Skin Renewal Ballito family, so… grab a cuppa, sit back and have a read.
There’s a new face at our branch and it belongs to our new Branch Leader, Laura Johnston.
Having obtained her diploma in Somatology from the Durban University of Technology over 20 years ago, Laura brings a wealth of experience to our team, as well as her well-respected work ethic. She has spent many years looking after people, as well as training other therapists in numerous lodges across South Africa. Teaching them spa etiquette and how to give phenomenal guest service. She firmly (excuse the pun!) believes that skincare is about so much more that physically providing a skin treatment, and is as passionate about sharing knowledge and helping others as she is about playing her part in creating change.
Be sure to say “Hi” to the lovely Laura the next time you pay a visit to your favourite Skin Renewal branch
What’s her motto? “Beautiful skin requires commitment, not a miracle."
Our team with their new Branch Leader, industry legend, Laura Johnston
As a team, we believe wholeheartedly that you can’t pour from an empty cup, which is why we encourage a healthy work/life balance. Recently, one of our therapists, Taz, got to spend some quality time with friends listening to one of South Africa’s most ‘quality’ talents, Jeremy Loops, live in concert.
After over two years of lockdown restrictions, Taz said it was truly wonderful to be out and about in a crowd again, footloose and mask-free.

We love this ‘proud mama’ moment that our new Branch Leader, Laura, shared with us. This snap was taken just before Laura’s very dapper looking son headed off to accompany a friend to her Matric dance.
They grow up so fast. And so handsome!
One of the perks of being a Durbanite is most definitely the year-round sunshine and summery temperatures whatever the season. Speak to any one of our Dream Team and they’ll tell you that the ocean is not only one of their favourite views but one of their favourite places to relax, recharge and strengthen their cores too.
Speaking of engaging our cores
If you’re a Ballito local, be sure to put the Holla Trails on your ‘to do’ list.
Perfect for mountain biking and trail running, the Holla trails traverse 42 working farms just outside Ballito giving fitness fans and active families 340 km of marked trails to explore.
Suitable for both the very experienced and the novice newbie, these trails are as much a treat for the cardio-lover as they are for those who view spectacular scenery as tonic for the soul.

But first, coffee
For those partial to a caffeine fix, the Ballito area doesn’t disappoint. With so many to choose from, we’re spoilt for choice but, if we had to pick a favourite, right now it’s Toast.
A warm, welcoming space, we love that Toast is a family run business that showcases the best of our area’s local producers. Go on, check out their menu at www.toastballito.co.za
And, once you have, we’re pretty sure you’ll be heading there for your next cuppa!
From the glorious natural light to the contemporary décor and tranquil atmosphere, we may be a little biased but we adore our branch. We’re incredibly proud to call it our home away from home, as are our regulars who, let’s be honest, are less ‘patient’ and more ‘part of the furniture’.
One of our resident doctors at Skin Renewal Ballito, Dr Merle Williams, has a special interest in aesthetic and integrative medicine, and prides herself on putting in the extra effort when it comes to client care.
Dr Merle completed her level one aesthetic trading with the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine (AAAM) and the Integrative Medicine Bootcamp with The Golding Institute before relocating to her hometown of Durban.
A master at transferring her artistic talent from paper to person, Dr Merle joined Skin Renewal in 2017 and underwent an intensive three month in house training program, which included the opportunity to shadow Dr Maureen Allem, and many Skin Renewal doctors. To stay at the top of her game, she regularly attends non-surgical, anti-ageing congresses and workshops and is a member of AAMSA (The Aesthetic & Anti-Ageing Medicine Society of South Africa).
A must have treatment which is effective on all skin types and a fabulous entry level treatment, is our HydraTouch facial.
The HydraTouch Facial boasts a hypoallergenic peeling system removing waste from the pores without scratching the skin and removing the dead, dry cells that cause ones skin to feel itchy. The treatment includes transdermal mesotherapy which pushes a hydrating serum into the skin through pulse technology.
The Skin Renewal HydraTouch makes use of skin tightening technology and we add a layer of hydration via a moisture infusion and alginate mask to ensure that your skin is left feeling soft, plump and invigorated with not only a more hydrated skin but a skin with improved elasticity and plasticity.
LAMELLE CORRECTIVES HA+ SERUM
Asked to pick just one favourite product for the Winter months, therapist Taz doesn’t hesitate.
“Definitely the Lamelle Corrective HA+ serum,” she says, “It’s a multi-functional, anti-ageing treatment and the first product to contain two hyaluronidase inhibitors along with five types of hyaluronic acid, making it a formula that goes beyond mere skin hydration, working at the deeper dermal layer to increase fibroblast activity and collagen production. This means it not only enhances dermal modelling but firms and plumps the skin from within.”
A serum that hydrates, boosts collagen production, plumps and firms? Yes, please!
Skin Renewal’s vision is to facilitate infinite transformation to all the lives we touch, and, this year, we’re partnering with Komani to transform young lives by helping to stop period povert.
Every year 10,000 girls miss school due to them not having proper sanitary wear.
Komani produces high quality reusable, washable sanitary pads which are both sustainable and environmentally friendly. We aim to donate 1000 packs of reusable sanitary packs to each of the charities we support. For every 100 packs we receive, we will spend time with the beneficiaries educating the recipients on personal hygiene and how to use and maintain their sanitary pack. The cost of a pack is just R150 and the pads can last up to three years; requiring only 6 litres of water to wash the pads for the duration of a menstrual cycle.
Our patients have been so amazing in supporting this worthy cause and we appreciate every single contribution.
