5 Tips for a healthy skin and immunity

Autumn is a time of transition, the weather changes and so does our skin and immunity. It is during Autumn that we need to start protecting our health and skin against cooler weather. Here are a few of our favourite tips:

1. Give your skin a boost.

Now is the ideal time to have that skin peel, microdermabrasion or Dermapen treatment. These treatments all encourage additional blood flow to the skin, they boost collagen production and encourage a healthy natural glow. By boosting your skin’s natural cell renewal rate fine lines will be reduced, collagen production will be stimulated and your skin will be rejuvenated and revitalised - resulting in a smoother, more evenly toned, radiant-looking complexion.

2. Get rid of pigmentation.

Autumn is the perfect time of year for a course of IPL, peels or laser to improve pigmentation and age spots. The gentler sun and cooler weather make it an ideal season to treat pigmentation without having to worry about damage from the harsh summer sun. Laser, IPL and skin peels slough away years of visible damage and signs of premature skin ageing to instantly reveal a brighter, clearer and more even-toned complexion.

3. Up your immunity.

At this time of the year, we are plagued by all sorts of viruses and health issues, a compromised immune system will result in ongoing illness throughout autumn and winter. Autumn is the ideal time to boost your immune system with pre and probiotics, multivitamins and nutraceuticals. Many people do not realise that 90% of illness stems from an unhealthy digestive system. An imbalance in the gut such as inflammation will often be reflected on the skin.

Another culprit weakening the immune system is stress. The more inflamed or stressed your immune system is the more prone you are to illness. Natural ways to boost your immune system is to have a regular massage, proven to lower cortisol levels in your blood and increase blood and lymph circulation to flush the toxins out of your body and to include herbs such as ginger (which has antibacterial properties) in your daily diet.

Nutraceutical supplements recommended by one of our doctors:

  • Multivitamin - Omnium from Solgar
  • Vitamin D
  • Vitamin C – Ester-C Plus
  • Andrographis extract – Viral script
  • Beta Glucan – Immune Complex
  • CoQ10 (Ubiquinol)
  • Probiotics
  • Fish oil (Omega 3) – Omeganexix from Metagenix or Krill oil from Health Renewal.
  • N-Acetyl Cysteine

Always remember to consult with your medical practitioner before taking any of the above medications or supplements.

4. Adapt your skin care

The skin gets far more fragile at this time of the year, we are constantly in and out of hot and cold environments and this plays havoc with our skins natural moisture levels. Adapt your skin care to give more protection, more hydration and you will immediately reduce the look fine lines and wrinkles on the outer surface of the skin.

5. Don’t forget the Sunblock!

Whatever the weather, if there is even a hint of light outside harmful, ageing UV rays are present. Your skin needs protection all year round, make applying sunblock every day before you leave the house a priority all year round - your skin really will love you for it tomorrow!
